Title: Insights from JWST Spectra on Magnetic Fields and the Fine Structure Constant

Abstract: Spectroscopy and narrow-band imaging of z>5 galaxies with JWST/NIRSPEC is finally testing many of the predictions made with Spitzer/IRAC imaging data. There is clear evidence of strong nebular line emission at high redshift with equivalent widths that are greater than those seen in the local Universe. Nebular line diagnostics are providing unique insights into the physical conditions of the interstellar medium in early star-forming galaxies. We discuss the implications for the origin of Galactic-scale magnetic fields and constraints on the evolution of the fine structure constant that result from these measurements.
